Recyclo

Classifieds marketplace with free listings and no commission. A website with a public REST API and Google sign-in, plus a mobile app that is now in testing.

Preview of Recyclo

Recyclo.cz is an online classifieds site with free listings and no commission. Anyone selling an old washing machine, a bike or a used car part on the big Czech classifieds sites runs into fees sooner or later: for bumping a listing to the top, for highlighting it, for extending it, and on some services for the sale itself. On a cheap item worth a few hundred crowns, little is left after that. On Recyclo.cz, posting a listing, viewing it and contacting the seller are free, and no commission is taken from the sale. Seller and buyer agree directly and the site stays out of the deal.

Classifieds that take no cut

Recyclo does not charge the people who post listings. Advertising is meant to pay for running it: banners between listings, highlighted listings for businesses and sponsored categories with one sponsor per category. Someone selling one household item needs none of that. Recyclo does not handle payment or shipping and is not responsible for how a deal goes; it only connects two people. The site therefore recommends handing items over in person in a public place, paying cash after checking the goods and never sending a deposit to an unknown seller.

What sellers and buyers get

  • A listing has a title, a description, a price and up to ten photos. Sign-up works with an email address or a Google account and, according to the site, takes a few seconds.
  • Every listing is checked by a person before it goes live. According to the site, most are approved within a few hours, so a suspicious offer can be caught before buyers see it.
  • A listing stays live for 30 days after approval. Before it expires, the seller gets an email and can reactivate it with one click under "Moje inzeráty" (My listings).
  • Buyers can browse listings without an account. They filter by price, condition and location and save favourites with a heart icon. Messaging a seller through the site requires signing in, and the seller gets an email about every new message.
  • Besides offers there are also wanted ads: anyone looking for something posts a listing in the "Poptávka" (Wanted) category.
  • A suspicious listing can be reported with the "Nahlásit nevhodný obsah" (Report inappropriate content) button. Weapons, drugs, counterfeits and stolen goods may not be listed.

Recyclo detector reads a part number from a photo of the label and prepares the listing details from it.

Part numbers from a photo of the label

For car parts and other equipment, the part number decides the sale. Buyers search for a specific original (OE or OEM), catalogue or manufacturer number, and if the listing does not contain it, they will not find it. Copying long numbers from a dusty label is work most sellers would rather skip. Recyclo detector reads the number from a photo of the label, puts the part into a category and fills in the listing attributes. The seller only checks the result and saves it.

The site claims up to 98 % accuracy with a good photo and adds that the result depends mostly on the photo. The detector page therefore includes instructions: shoot in good light, up close and square to the label so that it fills the frame, and wipe the label first. According to the site, the detector has been in development for over a year and keeps learning new types of parts and labels. Recyclo does not publish how it recognises the numbers.

How it is built

The site is written in PHP on the Nette framework, data is handled by Doctrine ORM and the REST API is built on the Apitte library. Categories and active listings are available through a public JSON API without a key, for example at https://recyclo.cz/api/v1/categories. The category tree has twelve top-level branches, from Auto-moto through Electronics and Furniture to Animals, and 91 categories in total.

On a phone the site adapts to the screen width and has a light and a dark mode. RollPage mode shows listings one at a time in full screen with the photo, price and location; a swipe moves to the next one and a tap opens the detail.

Every listing has its own URL that search engines index. The site generates a sitemap and schema.org structured data, so a listing with a part number can be found directly from Google or Seznam (the main Czech search engine) by that number.

Who it is for

  • Households getting rid of furniture, clothes or electronics that do not want to pay for a listing on an item worth a few hundred crowns.
  • Hobbyists and scrapyards with used car parts: the detector saves them copying numbers and makes it easier for buyers to search by part number.
  • People looking for something who would rather say what they want than browse dozens of offers.
  • Developers who want to load Recyclo categories or listings into their own application through the public API.

Project status

Recyclo has been running since 2025 and, according to its footer, is operated by NKS Hub. The mobile app is in testing and is not in the app stores yet. The website and the API are in production.
