NKS Eshop

Standalone e-shop with its own admin and store management, built on the same technologies as NKS Web.

Preview of NKS Eshop

NKS Eshop is a standalone e-shop with its own admin and store management. A small shop selling vegetables, spare parts or gift baskets usually faces a choice: rent a boxed e-shop where anything outside the template is solved with an add-on for a monthly fee, or have an e-shop written from scratch and then maintain it alone. NKS Eshop is a third way: a standalone application with its own database. It shares only technologies with our NKS Web CMS: the Nette framework, Doctrine ORM and a REST API built on Apitte. Each shop has its own design, and the features its business needs are written into the shared core rather than into a single project.

What is wrong with boxed solutions, and what is not

A boxed e-shop is a quick start, and for a shop with standard goods it is often enough. The trouble starts with things the template does not expect: goods sold both by weight and by the piece, regular deliveries to companies, a basket put together from a budget the customer enters. Such things either cannot be done at all, or the shop pays for an add-on it has no control over. In NKS Eshop the catalogue, basket, customer accounts and content pages are ready, and a shop's special requirements get written on top.

What the shop and its customers get

  • The catalogue has a tree of categories and subcategories, search, and "Akční nabídky" (Special offers) and "Novinky" (New arrivals) pages. New arrivals lists products added in the last 21 days.
  • A product shows the price with and without VAT, availability, properties such as country of origin or quality class, and a description. A sale price is shown next to the struck-through original price, and goods sold by weight also show the price per kilogram.
  • Quantity is entered in pieces, kilograms or bunches depending on the goods, and a product is added to the basket without leaving the page. Registration is not required to buy; with an account, the customer has an order history and saved addresses. An order summary arrives by email right away.
  • Terms and conditions, the returns policy, shipping and payment, and GDPR are content pages that the shop edits itself in the admin.
  • Search engines get a sitemap with products and their last modification date. The admin, basket, orders and customer account are excluded from indexing in robots.txt.
  • The design is made for each shop separately. The demo shop and a live e-shop on the same base look completely different, even though they have the same pages and URLs.

How it works in production

The fruit and vegetable e-shop atojepecka.cz, which delivers in and around Prague, runs on the same base. It shows how the core is extended with features for a specific shop. A company that wants regular fruit deliveries to its office fills in a multi-step enquiry: for how many people, how many times a week, with what budget, on which days and what the delivery should contain. It then gets a proposal by email. The newer "Sestavit závoz podle rozpočtu" (Build a delivery from a budget) feature goes further: the customer enters an amount and the e-shop immediately builds a basket from it based on the season and current stock. The shipping and payment page has a map of the delivery area on OpenStreetMap, and the whole shop can be switched to dark mode. Companies have a separate "Pro firmy" (For business) section offering regular deliveries to offices, businesses and restaurants.

Technically, NKS Eshop is a PHP application on the Nette framework with Doctrine ORM; the design is styled with Tailwind CSS and built with Vite. The shop site also has an llms.txt file that tells language models and AI search engines what they will find there.

Who it is for

  • Shops with fresh or weighed goods that need prices per kilogram, availability and delivery under their own rules.
  • Sellers who also serve companies and want a different buying process for them than for households, such as an enquiry for regular deliveries.
  • Shops whose customers search by part number. Search in the default template supports that.

Project status

The core is in production on atojepecka.cz. The demo at eshop.nks-hub.cz is a bare template with sample data and an empty catalogue, so it shows the layout, not a product range. Payment gateways and carriers are connected per shop: atojepecka.cz takes cash on delivery and bank transfers. NKS Eshop is not a service where a shop creates an account and starts selling within an hour: every shop is deployed together with us.
